Tips and tricks learned while traveling

1. Pack less

Travel Tip # 1. You should try to travel only with hand luggage. Do you really need six pairs of shoes and an iron? If you pack less, you’ll travel cheaper (no baggage fees), faster (no waiting around to pick up your bags) and easier (one bag means less to lug around on your plane trip).

2. Forget your travel guide

Another travel tip. Rather than taking your Backpacker or your Lonely Planet with you, photocopy the pages you need and recycle them when you no longer need them. This allows you to save space and weight.

3. Avoid the security line where there are children

Take the one where there are only adults. It goes much faster.

4. Never put on flip-flops (on an airplane)

In the unlikely event of an emergency, it’s best to wear sturdy shoes that will protect you from heat and sharp objects.

5. Shake yourself (a little)

If you are afraid of in-flight turbulence, try to wiggle your body a bit as you come to an area where it is jarring. No one will notice it because everyone is moving due to the movements of the plane. It might sound a little crazy, but your movement will counter that of the plane and you will feel less turbulence. If you are looking for travel tips, ask us!

6. If possible, choose your seat well.

If you can choose your seat, avoid sitting next to babies and groups of friends who are going to chat, your plane trip will be more peaceful. This is also good travel.

7. Learn a few words

Memorize a few words of the local language, and have the courage to use them! It’s amazing how a few words can go a long way. People tend to prefer those who make the effort to communicate with them in their own language.

8. Close your mouth

A little travel tip for your health. If you are in a country where the water is not safe, keep your mouth closed in the shower.

9. Choose the right hotel

Today, we compare, we read the opinions. To find a good hotel, don’t forget to take a look on Skyscanner, find better at the best price, it’s worth it, a good tip for finding cheap trips.

10. Drop your friends

Traveling alone can seem daunting at first, but it gives you a real chance to immerse yourself in your journey. Traveling solo, I made lifelong friends, learned a new language and had amazing experiences.

11. Always travel with a hoodie

Even though they have become the uniform for young teens, hoodies are still excellent clothing for travel. Pull on your hood and isolate yourself from noise and light for sleeping on an airport flight / seat / bus.

12. Choose the Asian-vegetarian menu

You’re served first, you avoid fatty and heavy dishes (which helps with jet lag, apparently), and the quality is better.

13. Bring earplugs

If silence is golden, then earplugs are worth their weight in platinum during your plane trip. Being able to sleep in a noisy plane or hotel is a significant advantage, not to be underestimated if you want to travel well.

14. Pre-book an airport lounge

Still, looking for travel tips? If you are traveling by long haul, book an airport lounge in advance. There is a tax to be paid in advance, but it allows you to enjoy a quiet environment with free drinks, food, magazines, newspapers, WIFI, etc. When you leave, take a few bottles of water. It’s an affordable and fun way to start your trip off right.

15. Bring a device with an Internet connection

If you are taking a long trip, take a device that connects to wifi, such as a smartphone or a tablet. Before, I didn’t because I was afraid to take an expensive item on a trip, but it turned out to be even more expensive, if not impossible, to use the internet on the spot. There is free wifi all over the world, and you will quickly find that you often need to go to your bank account or verify your reservation, but also find cheap travel tips.

16. Take a jacket with you

When you take a plane trip (especially on long haul) always bring an extra jacket because the blankets you are given are not very thick and it can get cold on the plane. Travel advice for your comfort!

17. Pack a sarong

Sarongs are lightweight and multifunctional: for lying on the beach, for covering up when it’s cold, for transforming into a towel, curtain, skirt, dress, and even a rescue bandage.

18. Bring a tablet for the children

When taking an airplane trip with young children, take a laptop or tablet. Cartoons and other films help pass the time during the flight and allow parents to take a break too.

19. Invest in noise-canceling headphones

For the perfect long-haul trip, buy a good ear muffler. The price may be steep, but they’re worth it so you don’t hear the screaming baby, the snoring neighbor, or the teens chatting.

20. Kindles are made for travel

I never travel without my Kindle. No need to carry around several books, hoping to exchange them with other travelers. Maybe it was a “lovely” way to travel down memory lane, but not when you find yourself with books… in German!

21. Take a look behind you

Whenever you leave somewhere, whether it’s an airport chair, cafe, or bar, always turn around to make sure you haven’t forgotten anything. This travel tip could help you avoid moments of panic.

22. Roll up your clothes

Once we start riding, we wonder why we were breaking our brains out. Travel tips are also about optimizing your luggage to pay less.

23. Use your body language

When there is a language barrier, shouting in your mother tongue doesn’t help much. So use your body. It is the most international language in the world. And don’t forget to punctuate with a smile.

24. Bring a banana AND a wallet

And this for two reasons: if your banana is stolen, you can quietly take out your wallet and continue your vacation without too much hassle. If you make friends there and want to pay for a tour, use your wallet instead as it might be insulting to see yourself rummaging through your banana.

25. Do not change your money at the hotel

Budget traveler advice: look for the best rate instead. Find a credit / debit card that doesn’t charge you for overseas purchases, and don’t bother with travelers checks.

Do not change your money at the hotel

26. Don’t take (too much) cash

I don’t think I’ve been to a country that doesn’t have a distributor in the last ten years. So you don’t really need to take more than two days of cash.

27. Take a pack of cards

Travel advice number 27! A deck of cards is not only useful to pass the time when there are delays, but it is also a good way to start an intercultural dialogue.

28. Take a guide

When you visit a cultural monument, always take a local guide. It will show you a lot more than going it alone or reading your travel guide.

29. Be flexible

The more flexible your travel arrangements, the more money you will save (you can travel at cheaper times and get better rates). Use Skyscanner’s handy monthly charts to find the cheapest flights in a given month, the price of your plane trip will be affected.

30. Synchronize your sleep

To avoid the inconvenience of jet lag, try to synchronize your sleep pattern with the new time zone immediately. This is one of the must-have travel tips for long-haul travelers.

31. Take travel insurance

Advice to travelers essential not to transform the dream into a nightmare. Always take travel insurance (and don’t just rely on insurance from your credit card). It seems obvious, but a lot of people don’t and end up losing a lot of money when things go wrong.

32. Be faithful

If you want to be upgraded, take the airline’s loyalty card. Even if you are at the lowest level, you will be rewarded first.

33. Tiger Balm is a gift from the gods

Unstoppable travel tip! This Singaporean balm not only works wonders on sore muscles, but also works as an insect repellant. A perfect two-in-one for traveling well.

34. Understand that you can be understood

The fact that this gentleman is white does not necessarily mean that he speaks French. And the fact that this lady is Asian does not necessarily mean that she does not speak French! Beware when you slander in a language that may be understood around you. You never know who understands what.

Philosophical reflections on travel

35. Admit we’re all the same

It is as you travel that you realize that societies are as fragmented and diverse in their perspectives as yours. Among the essential travel tips, we can only cite openness.

42. Sitting is tiring

Traveling by plane is tiring, even if you are sitting in a comfortable seat all the time. Among the advice to travelers to follow, we can only encourage you to get up regularly during the flight.

43. Go for it

If you have a strong urge to “go on a trip”, even if it’s just to see a particular place, start saving and go! Do not be too long. Don’t postpone. Do it, or you’ll regret when you’re too old / too busy / too busy to travel.

44. Don’t be paranoid

Be wise and careful, but try not to be paranoid. I once traveled with a guy who couldn’t relax because he was convinced everyone was there to steal his money or rip him off. One day he lost his car keys and started blaming the family who had hosted us for a night in the desert. He ended up finding the keys at the bottom of his sleeping bag. Travel tip: put away your belongings!
